Case details

The German Midwives Association (Deutscher Hebammenverband e.V., DHV) is the largest professional organization for midwives in Germany. Representing around 22,000 members, the DHV advocates for both freelance and employed midwives and is dedicated to ensuring high-quality maternity care.

Current Activities of the DHV:

  • Political Advocacy:
The DHV actively engages with current legislative initiatives in the healthcare sector. Recently, it provided input on amendments to the guidelines for contraception and pregnancy termination, as well as on a draft regulation for the Hospital Transformation Fund.

  • German Midwives Congress 2025:
The next German Midwives Congress will take place from May 5 to 7, 2025, in Münster. The in-person event is already fully booked, but online tickets are still available.

  • Professional Development:
The DHV offers a wide range of continuing education opportunities, including events such as the “Leadership Day for Senior Midwives 2024” and specialized training courses in antenatal care. Members also have access to the online learning platform OlGA, which provides free e-learning resources.

  • Service Events:
Regular formats such as the “Jour Fixe on the Midwifery Services Contract” and open consultation hours on digitalization in the midwifery field foster collegial exchange and ongoing education.

The DHV remains committed to strengthening the profession, improving working conditions, and ensuring that high-quality, individualized care is accessible to all families.
